July Runner of the Month

July Runner of the Month | Amara Deedon

When and why did you start running?

This really makes me think, I still do not consider myself a runner. I have always wanted to be a runner, even took running 101 in college. I have been active most of my life, swimming, basketball, sand volleyball, softball, fast walking, classes at the gym, etc. Running and I have a very strong love/HATE relationship! Most of my running started May of 2013. My sisters and I were running the Rave Run at Valley Fair and I thought it would be cool to do 40 races by the time I was 40. Since I was turning 40 in a year that would be too much for me but my baby

sister could do it. So I helped her and she did it!! 40 Races in 3 years for her!

First race? Who knows? but the one I remember is the Rave run 2013

Most recent race? Stars and Stripes 5k, Wichita KS

Favorite piece of gear? My running vest

What shoes do you run in? too many……I have Brookes, Asics, Mizuno, Altra, I love shoes and all the colors!

Favorite way to cross train? Pilates @ J Pilates in Allen, swimming and body bump

Best running memory? There are so many good ones! Most of my favorites are helping friends or family cross the finish line. My mom and dad holding hands at Disney wine and dine 5k, my sister completing her 40th race as a 1/2 at Disney, and face timing my family and friends on a 50k.

Bucket list race? Whatever I get talked into…..but I think something in San Antonio sounds fun? or maybe Hawaii?

Favorite race so far? I cant pick just one, but some of my top picks: Disney Race Series, The Roller Coaster Race ( had to ride coasters to equal a 5k), The Party Run and The Colony Triathlon

Do you have a favorite distance? 15k or half marathon

What is something that most people do not know about you? I'm not sure I should answer this! LOL

Favorite tune to rock out to while running? I know this is crazy, but I love to listen to Disney on Pandora.

Best part about running? Is there really a best part?? It’s a social activity, the friendships that you make and the “free” therapy!

Who inspires you? My Cheerleaders! You all should know who you are, Thanks for believing in me and always encouraging me. Love You!

MRTT!! We have so many people in our group that are doing many things and are sticking with their goals even if they are having a bad day.

What has been your biggest challenge so far? Training….. i don't really do it.

Any words of advice? I love quotes, but not sure who wrote this. “Remember how far you have come, not just how far you have to go. You are not where you want to be, but neither are you where you used to be.” AND this one, “ the MOST important project you will ever work on is Yourself”
