April Runner of the Month | Kim Leslie
When and why did you start running? I feel like I got tricked into being a runner! :) In 2014, I got talked into trying a long run with some of my running friends. I learned half way through the run that we were doing an out and back route. I was 4 miles in and realized I still had to get back home. I had never run more than a 5K, so once I saw that I could do 8 miles and not die, I was hooked!
First race? I had run lots of 5K’s before, but my first long race was Hot Chocolate 15K in 2015 and then I did the Fairview Half 2 months later as my first half marathon.
Most recent race? I did a virtual 10K for Carson’s Crusaders with my son last week (since all races are cancelled right now :( )
Favorite piece of gear? My Powerbeats earbuds.
What shoes do you run in? Brooks
Favorite way to cross train?
Camp Gladiator
Best running memory? Running my first (and only) full marathon in 2018.
Bucket list race? I would love to do the Disney Princess Half.
The favorite race so far?
Rock and Roll Vegas.
Do you have a favorite distance? 10K or 15K.
What is something that most people do not know about you? I was diagnosed with MS in in 2007. Favorite tune to rock out to while running? I always run to Pandora Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout Radio.
Best part about running? The feeling of accomplishment after every run- no matter how long or short it was. Who inspires you? All the amazing women in our running group!
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
Definitely marathon training.
Any words of advice?
Always keep challenging yourself. You will never know what you are capable of unless you try!
