Best part about running? Running has given me many things, but the greatest gift is the people it has brought into my life. Who inspires you? There are so many people in my life that inspire me. My husband and children, and my running friends inspire me every single day. They motivate me to keep running and pursuing my dreams and goals.
What has been your biggest challenge so far? Comparing myself to others. I had to accept the fact that there is always going to be someone that can run longer and faster than me.
I hit an over-training point last year and it took stepping back to realize I was doing more harm than good. Though it is tough, I've learned to run with the mantra “you do you”. Crossing the finish line is an achievement and a joy in and of itself; I'm learning to NOT let "comparison" steal that joy.
Any words of advice?
Take time to feel gratitude during each run or race, and to enjoy the FULL experience: the neighborhoods, the spectators, the friendships, the challenges, and the triumphs. Be proud of your accomplishments, big and small. Believe in your capability, your calibre and your performance. Set goals and train as if you are the worst and compete as if you are the best. The best way to beat the competition is to compete against yourself. Remind yourself that it is about being better than you were the day before.
